How did you get to Edison? My school Hillside School closed and there was a 4/5 teaching spot open at Edison. What do you like best about teaching? You can continue to learn that kids are so creative, friendly and resourceful. What college did you go to? I went to Vassar in New York. What is your favorite subject? I love reading and social studies. Do you have any hobbies? Yes, I love to garden, bike, read, travel and take care of my chickens. If you could travel anywhere where would you go? I would love to go to India because it has many contrasts. Who is your favorite singer? I like Jazz, Diana Crawl, Frank Sinatra, Ella Fitzgerald, Tony Bennett and the lead singer to the musical Wicked. What your favorite song? Sunrise, Sunset from Fiddler on the Roof is my favorite. If you could vote for one actor for President who would it be? I would vote for Martin Sheen.

Laura- why did you want to become a teacher? “Because I enjoyed school a lot myself, so it seemed to be like a good place to be.”
Do you have any previous teaching experience? If so, where? “Yes. I taught at Fox Hollow in 1st grade for six years. I also taught 1st, 2nd, and 3rd grade and I did my student teaching at Edison! I taught for Mary McKrola (3/4 mix).”
Do you have any special class technology (like the smart-board)? “Yeah, I have the Smart-board & the document camera.”
Do you like teaching at Edison? Why? “I do! I love it! I love the beautiful building and the mix of academics and things like art. I like that it it’s a neighborhood school, and I love that it’s a part of a community.”
Do you have any weird favorites? “I like guacamole and my doors are purple. When I was a kid, I had purple shag carpet.”
What is one of your favorite hobbies? “I like making quilts.”
Why did you decide to teach 1st grade? “One of the things that I enjoy about 1st grade is teaching kids to read.”

What kind of pets does Save the Pets have?

How did you get started with Save the Pets? How long have you been helping them?
I saw them in an article in the Register Guard and about how you could foster animal. I have been helping them for about 6 months.
What kind of pets do you have that you are fostering?
I have 4 kittens that I have been fostering for four weeks. They are very cute.
What’s the most important thing that you can do to help the animals?
There are so many ways to help. It is hard to pick just one, but almost everybody can do something. Go to their website for lots of different ways to help.
What’s the funniest thing that one of your pets ever did?
My foster kittens love to lie down under my wood stove and play and under my cooking stove too. They jump out and attack each other.
